I'd like to introduce you to Jack, a lovely six month old Jack Russellpuppy.

From the minute I arrived at the house, Jack decided that he wasn't veryfond of me and was going to let me know this by barking at me but thankfully the twochildren he lives with came home and he soon calmed down and eventually even let me play with him.

Civil Partnership Ceremony – Tracey and Judy

I hadthe pleasure of being asked to photograph Tracey’s and Judy’s civil partnershipceremony at the beginning of August. It was a small intimate ceremony held atGateshead Civic Centre, with the happy couple surrounded by their closestfriends and family.

The ceremony was all about the joining of their two families; they weresurprised by a special reading from the eldest of their children who hadwritten some words expressing her happiness at their coming together as afamily.

English Country Theme Wedding

Felicity was lucky to spend the night before her big day in Beamish Hall’s apartment, accompanied by just a few close friends and family. When I first arrived at the apartment it felt very calm, with members of the bridal party coming and going.

This is a small selection of images from Felicity and Michael’s wedding day at Beamish Hall. It was a wonderful day and I was so glad they invited me to be a part of it all.

Felicity had a professional make-up session before the wedding, and had bought all of the items which had been used at that session so she would be able to replicate the same look; she even wrote a step by step guide to what happened at each stage and exactly which products were used. This was used to run the military operation by one of Felicity’s bridesmaids on the day, who had agreed to apply her make-up for her!

The room that the ceremony took place in had an intimate atmosphere, which was perfect for all of Felicity’s and Michael’s closest friends and family to join them in celebration. The ceremony was filled with laughter and smiles from the minute Michael saw his bride for the first time to the registrar announcing their new status as husband and wife.

It eventually took three people to get his buttonhole in the right place

With an English country garden theme (luckily they had chosen the only day that weekend that the sun shone!) it was a very relaxed day and everyone was kept entertained by the happy couple’s daughter and pageboy.

Felicity and Michael make a wonderful couple, and they blended traditional and contemporary elements of the day brilliantly to achieve their dream wedding.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Phillipson. I wish you all the best for the future.

Wedding Fayre - National Glass Centre

I attended my second wedding farye on Sunday 10 July 2011 which took place at The National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
The wedding farye was extremely busy and there was a fantastic buzz amongst the 50+ wedding suppliers showcasing their businesses. It was great talking to all the brides to be about the ideas they have for their big days.

Venue

Room Hire – The venue we used charged us a lower room hire price as we got married outside the height of season and also got married on a Sunday.

Corkage – Our venue allowed us to supply our own Champagne (and other wine!) for our wedding breakfast and they only charged us a small corkage fee for each bottle. This enabled us to buy all our wine when the supermarkets had special offers on… It also gave us a great excuse to try all sorts of different wines!

Are you getting married on a budget?

My husband and I got married in 2008 on a very tight budget which meant we had to think outside the box to achieve some of the things we wanted. Over the coming days and weeks, I’ll share with you some of the things we did that helped us keep costs down. I hope some might be of benefit to you, or help you come up with your own ideas for weddings at a knock-down price!

High Street/Market Bargains

Save the date cards and invitations - We bought ours from Tesco and they were half the cost of all the quotations we were given for bespoke cards. My husband’s father wrote the invitations using his calligraphy skills (thanks to a lifetime of teaching and handing out awards at school!) and everyone loved the fact we had done them ourselves.

Bridal shoes – I was lucky enough to get some gorgeous ivory shoes from the Next clearance section at a local designer outlet centre as they were from a previous season’s collection. However, many high street stores including New Look, Next and BHS now offer suitable wedding shoes at affordable prices all year round

Table Decorations – I made all the table centres using a combination of items from a local market and IKEA. I made my own flower arrangements using glass vases, coloured pebbles and wooden scented roses wrapped in ribbon to make them pretty (and keep them to the shape I wanted!).

Wedding Fayre - The Black Horse, Beamish

The Black Horse at Beamish in County Durham held their first wedding fayre at the weekend; myself and all the other exhibitors on the day were situated in a marquee on the front lawn. This was a great way of showcasing our products and services to any brides-to-be, and for those thinking about holding their wedding there how their own wedding day could look. The Black Horse looks over the stunning countryside of County Durham, however it was extremely windy and we were all left wondering if the marquee was about to blow away! I’m glad to say, however, that it didn’t and we all had a great time.

Affordable Wedding Photography

I know what it is like working to a budget and trying to plan a wedding.

There are many brides to be out there that are getting married on a budget, and I know when it came to my husband and me getting married we were unable to find a photographer whose pricing was within our budget or affordable. In the end, we asked all our family and friends to bring their cameras along with them; although I love the photographs they have taken and we are extremely grateful to them, I regret the fact that there are several images missing as nobody was aware of the key shots I wanted.

Pets become a huge part of any family’s life, and I believe that you should have images to remember them and their personality. I love photographing pets, or indeed any animal, in as natural an environment as possible. I find that if you take a pet to an environment they enjoy like the woods or the beach not only do they get to have a great time, but so do their owner and me.

I Love Animals

My love for animals started at a young age; for as long as I can remember, there was never a day without at least three dogs running around the house. My Mum and I regularly attended obedience trials, and she even actively organised local dog training sessions for several groups. My husband had four cats when I met him and I have now become a lover of cats too; we now have a dog and are owned by two cats and as you will see they feature regularly in my work as they are always on hand to photograph.

It was our wedding anniversary on Wednesday, my husband and I went on a short trip to Amsterdam to celebrate. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and after a long walk round we found ourselves sat outside a cafe (not a coffee shop) just watching everyone go about their business.

I had the pleasure of meeting a great couple last year, who booked iMagic Moment Photography to capture all those special moments on their wedding day.

When I first met Michelle and Owen, they told me the lovely story of how they met; it was a whirlwind romance. Michelle and Owen met at a motorway services near County Durham back in 2009 whilst enjoying a hot drink from a well known coffee shop and from that point on the couple were planning their special day.

Michelle and Owen arranged to celebrate the 1^st anniversary of their meeting as their wedding day, so exactly one year on from the date they first met that date changed to their wedding anniversary! Michelle and Owen chose the beautiful Bowburn Hall on the outskirts of County Durham for their wedding day which is also only a few miles away from where they first met.

As part of the day, Michelle and Owen asked to have some photos taken at the same coffee shop in which they met a year before. The driver on the day kindly agreed to take us round the corner to the motorway services so we could get the shots; the reactions we got from the general public were interesting, as it’s not the normal thing you expect to see on a Saturday afternoon in a service area!

The day was fantastic and I was made to feel welcome by all of their family and friends. We got some great photos, and iMagic Moment wishes them every happiness for their future together.

Beautiful Sunset

You can't beat a nice sunset... and I am lucky that my house overlooks fields so always get views of fantastic sunsets.

One evening last week I was driving home and noticed it was going to be a great night for some pictures of a sunset, the sky was a nice deep orange already and as luck has it I managed to dash in the house and grab my camera and this is the result...

Be Enterprising - Be Your Own Boss

Be Enterprising is a programme organised by Durham County Council for anyone looking for start up business advice. There are five teams which cover the county and each area holds its own events to promote the programme to anyone who is thinking about or has started a business in County Durham. The teams who cover South Durham (including Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe, Spennymoor and Willington) hosted two events in 2010 ‘Be Your Own Boss’ in Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre and Bishop Auckland Town Hall.

Both ‘Be Your Own Boss’ events invited support agencies and existing Be Enterprising clients to showcase their businesses and products as well as provide help and support to anyone thinking about starting their own business.

One of the success stories at the event held in Newton Aycliffe was Amanda Heaviside, Fairyhill Cakes Fairy Hill Cakes. Amanda bought along a huge selection of her handmade cupcakes to sell at the event and they were snapped up by everyone exhibiting as well as the visitors to the event.

At both events some of the Business Coaches went to hand leaflets out on the day of the event in the surrounding area of each venue and employed some interesting ways to get them noticed by using Stilt Walkers and a Town Crier.

My Wedding Day - beware of car doors

Well, I think if I tell you a story about my wedding day you will pick up on my tip...

On the morning of my wedding, I opened the curtains to see a covering of snow on the ground; this was a total surprise as it was Easter Sunday (2008). I had a feeling that the day was going to be even better than I had imagined, although a lot colder than my bridesmaids and I had planned; you can imagine my joy that they were going to get to use the wraps my mother-in-law had kindly made for me.

We pulled up to our venue; my uncle and I were greeted by many guests wanting to see our arrival and capture the moment. I was about to get out the car but my husband’s best friend, a keen photographer, who we will call ‘Ricky’* asked me to stay where I was as he wanted to get some photographs of me sitting in the back of the car; he took a couple of photos and told me he was done.

Knowing that he had the photos he wanted I started to get out of the car (as any bride will know, not an easy task in a wedding dress!) and as I put my hand on the car pillar to support myself whilst I got out; ’Ricky’ decided he would be helpful and close the car door. Yes. My hand was still there.

I eventually managed to get out of the car but to everyone’s surprise I was crying and many of them assumed it was the emotion getting to me. One of my bridesmaids then realised what had happened and quickly despatched help to go and get some ice to put on my hand. On my wedding video you can clearly hear our hero realising what he has done by the words he chose to use (which I couldn’t possibly repeat!). He disappeared into the venue and advised all the guests waiting for me (including my husband-to-be) that I was crying and that I was very emotional; then a few seconds later he admitted what he’d done.

So that’s why my hands aren’t in many of our wedding photos, and why in those where they appear, one is wrapped in what looks like a damp tea-towel.

However, despite this, the ceremony went well; a good thing to come from the incident is that we have something to laugh about from the day on top of all the other brilliant moments we had, and it certainly means we’ll never forget it; and neither will we let ‘Ricky’ forget!

So...all brides to be out there don't let your husband’s to be best friend anywhere the car doors :)

*This name has been changed to protect the not-so-innocent!

Well everyone...

This is my first blog.

I will be using my blog to talk about all things relating to photography or the industries I am working with.

So I think I will start by posting on of my favorite pictures-

Be Your Own Boss Event, Newton Aycliffe Town Centre

Be Enterprising hired stilt walkers to walk around the town to promote the 'Be Your Own Boss' event they were holding at the local youth centre. The day was about getting the local town (Newton Aycliffe) to think about self-employment and they showcased other businesses who had recieved support from Be Enterprising to every anyone who had an idea that it is possible even in these current hard times.
This was a fantastic day in the beautiful July sun and gave me the chance to photograph something different and the reactions on the shoppers faces as the stilt walkers walked through the main town centre were brilliant.
